June 11, 2010

Friday 6/11

This morning we hung around the house. I enjoy "doing nothing" but Micheal does not. He has to be doing "something," have a plan... sometimes it's exhausting. But, I didn't find a gift for Fletch yesterday and his party is tomorrow, so after the girls took a nap, we headed to Target. We were also looking for curtains (simple and cheap) for our kitchen. We've been trying not to run the A/C all day long in an effort to avoid a $400 electricity bill, so we are trying to do some small things to make it cooler. The kitchen is the hot spot in the house because of the big bay window and the top-to-bottom door window. At Target we got gifts for Fletch's birthday and Jackson's (his party is next weekend) but didn't find a curtain that we liked. So, it was on to Lowe's next door. Lowe's has these super cool buggies

The girls loved it and "drove" around the store together

Here is what we came up with for curtains

Door

Bay window:

I'm especially proud of the bay window ones because I cut a curtain in half and actually hemmed one side of each. That's right. She sews, too. I used a machine and everything! I even remembered how to thread it the right way the first time (that never happens for me!) Anyway, the short shutters and the middle panel were already there, but they don't do much to keep the sun out. The curtains here are "thermal," which I hope means they will help keep some of that heat out.

This was our other energy saving purchase

Our A/C vents on the 1st floor are in the floor, and these little plastic do-hickeys direct the air into the middle of the room instead of cooling the edge of the room. Or, at least, that's the concept. The woman who we bought the house from had them throughout the house and we've been meaning to get them for, oh, 3 years now. Hahahaha!

After our errands, we went to the Pizza Plus for their buffet. It's been a few weeks since we've been, and we missed our Friday night tradition! The girls filled up on "pizza, sketti, and ice ceem!" The girls only took one nap today, and while Scout was fine with one, Dylan was pooped by the time we got home. I gave her a bath and put her to bed. I really think she was asleep with her eyes open in the tub. We took Scout outside for a while to run her around and get rid of some energy. Lol! Last night she did not want to go to sleep and I had to go in twice before she finally decided to close her eyes. We threw her "basitball" around the yard (yes, that is a football, but she insists on calling it basitball). This picture made me smile because of the slogan on the back of her shirt.

If she's not running on batteries, that would explain why the "off" button isn't working!

PS - tonight she was still awake an hour after we put her down. I refrained from going up there and she finally fell asleep. It may be a long day tomorrow since Fletch's party is at noon and that means no time for a nap...

Can't wait to see you guys again today. I'm also so glad you added the worm line from last weekend. Scout really says the funniest things!
