I am not sure where to credit the header I just added... hope it's okay to put it here!
Snagged it at http://digitalscrapbookplace.com and the designer is Tina Chambers!

Ooopsies.
Well, people have told me that my download doesn't work quite the way I wanted it to. The negative space should be removable and apparently it isn't. I used Picture It to create it and saved as a png file. Anyone know how I can fix it?

My first attempt at an original scrapbooking thingy...
I'm not exactly sure what to call these, so I will call them a frame collage. I created them to use as a 12 month page in Scout's book (see previous post). My grandmother has a frame very similar to this for each of her kids - Kindergarten through graduation school photos. I hope someone can get some use out of it at some point! There are 8 colors of the same thing in the folder. Enjoy!

One more thing... I noticed a few gaps in the one I worked on the other day and I fixed that - so if you notice them on Scout's page below, they are gone now!

Other happenings of the day
I felt that the story of the house deserved its own post and so I started it soon after the old owners left. It took me a while to complete (had to save and come back) because, well, I've been busy with other things. What other things? Glad you asked. Well, Scout actually decided to nap for more than 10 minutes at a time today, so I got some digi scrapping done. Not so much done as worked on. I created this today

Made the framing myself. I'm thinking about making several frames like that in different colors and trying to figure out how to share them as templates. More on that later I am sure. If anyone reads this and knows how, please share with me! The idea is to put a picture from her 1st birthday in the center and complete the other months. I may add a few little embellishments when it's all done, but I want it to stay simple.
Anywho, I also somehow managed to burn my right hand pretty badly while making dinner. Notice I didn't say cooking. I said making. I put some chicken and okra in the deep fryer for us. Somehow, while opening it, the steam burned the crap out of my hand. I mean, this was 4 hours ago and it still feels like it is on fire. I've tried cold water, ice, aloe... all of it helps for about 5 minutes and then it burns again. So now I am putting aloe on it and when it starts to burn again I am running cold water on it for a while. Then when it starts again using aloe... and so on and so forth.
Here is my poor hand tonight

The burn kept me from putting Scout to bed for the first time in her life. I was trying to feed her (I'm breastfeeding for anyone who doesn't know) and it was just too much. She has a "crazy arm" while she feeds and I can usually hold her hand, but tonight, that hurt. Also, she was fighting sleep and kicking and it wasn't helping that every time my hand came into contact with - well, anything - I was jerking and holding back screams. If you've ever tried to put a baby down to sleep you know this isn't ideal. So, for the first time ever, I asked Michael for help getting her down. He tried to give her a bottle (she had eaten some and wasn't too hungry). Then he rocked her, wrapped her up, and put her down. She didn't go to sleep immediately, but I was impressed with how well they both did. Our friends put her down one night when they babysat for us, but she didn't stay asleep longer than an hour. As of right now, she's been asleep for nearly two, so we are pretty much out of the danger zone there.
That's all for now. Hoping tomorrow won't be quite so interesting! LOL!

Original Owners of our house
Today some of the original owners of our house came by to look around and share some stories about the house. They brought an oil painting of the house from the 1950s to show us, too. Well, we already knew that the house used to be in F----- where S----B---- Mall is now. They told us it is right about where the Nordstrom's is now.
The oldest told us that she was born in the house in 1926. She was born in the room we use as our office - it used to be her parents bedroom. She said that her aunt was cooking for 50 people in the kitchen while her mother was in labor in the bedroom. Her father and his friends were playing dominoes in the corner of the bedroom. That seems crazy to me, but I guess it was common back then. She had 7 brothers and sisters (total of 8 children). She was the only one born in this house, though. Her nephew came as well and remembers when our laundry room was a porch (which we had guessed). There was a bathroom out on the porch about where our half bath is now. The woman's daughter brought an oil painting that one of her students made of the house. It wasn't the most beautiful piece of art ever, but was interesting to see.
We found out that the house has had 5 owners from what we can piece together. From the time it was built (1920) until around 1945 it was the family who came to see us today. Then someone else bought it and their family owned it until the mall was proposed (around 1999 or 2000). The family who owned the original land here in V.A. (and broke it into 4 lots) bought the house and had it moved here. They sold it to Rosie Drake and we bought it from her in 2007. At some point while it was in F----- it was rented out as apartments, which explains why there are so many plugs, phone lines, and cable lines in the house.
I wanted to get all of that out before I forgot. And now, a few pics of the house now

Oh sad, sad day...
Well, we have three computers in the house. Michael and I each have a laptop issued to us by our jobs, and we have a desktop in the office. We have a network set up to connect all of them. It's primary source is the desktop. Well, for the last few weeks, my laptop has been acting funny. So, we decided it was a good time to backup files on all three computers. We spent free time transferring things to the network and burning them to DVD on the desktop (the only one with a DVD burner). We finished all this about a week ago.
This morning, the desktop crashed. Michael was listening to music last night while he worked out in there and the music stopped and told him he had to download something to continue. As soon as he did, all kinds of crazy things started popping up faster than he could shut the windows. So, he turned it off and went to bed. This morning, the only way he could turn the computer on was in safe mode. So, he had to reinstall windows - wiping everything off of the desktop and network.
Now, while we did just backup everything, things we put on the network this week were lost - including a bunch of stuff I just downloaded for scrapping and all of my pictures from June. I am going to try to piece them together as much as I can - I uploaded most of the pictures to different sites, but I know some are just lost forever.
It really stinks, because we had just agreed to save things on the network and back them up once a month. Best laid plans... *sniff*
Has this kind of thing happened to you? Don't you just feel so helpless? Technology is so helpful, but it can be devastating when something goes wrong.

Scrapbook Pages
Here are the scrapbook pages that I have done for Scout's Book. I can't figure out how to post them on the side of my blog, so I'll post it in a blog.
Going to the park - maybe
Well, Michael and I had planned on taking Scout to the park today. We still may go, but it's going to be super-duper hot! I guess I should have specified to Michael that I wanted to go early. It's 11:00 and he is still sleeping and Scout is down for a nap. And I am stuck to the computer. So here are some random thoughts I've had...
I need a haircut. I don't have split ends, but the ends of my hair are getting pretty frizzy. It's been nearly a year since I've cut it. Yikes! Michael doesn't think I need one but I know that's just b/c he likes my hair long. I don't want to cut it short or anything. Just about an inch or so to get the frizzies off.
Tomorrow is our anniversary. 5 years. We've been together nearly 9. Man, we're getting old. lol! Jacob and Melissa are going to come over and babysit Scout so that we can go out to eat. We're thinking about seeing a movie, too. I hope everything goes okay. It seems like whenever I look forward to things like this something goes wrong.
Sounds like Scout is waking up from a nap. Hoping to come back later today with pictures from the park!

Gonna try posting some pictures

Just playing around here. Scout has been sucking on her thumb lately. I finally caught it on camera.
Another glorious day
So today has been another day at home. We have about a month left before we go back to work. Michael and I spent the day watching Roseanne. I have to admit, it's our guilty pleasure this summer! We started watching it from the first season and have been hooked. Oxygen shows 8 episodes once a week and we have our DVR set to record them. Michael got smart and found the seasons we are missing to download and we have watched a handful of episodes that way. We are currently watching season 7. Not sure if anyone will find that interesting or not, but it's fun for me. :-)
I am also busy downloading a bunch of stuff for my digital scrapbooking obsession. Maybe at some point I will post some of the layouts that I've made. I don't know how to do that just yet. Hmmm. Well, the drier is going off so I should go get those clothes now.

First Blog
Well, I am new to this whole blogging thing. It's the middle of the summer and I can't believe we only have a few short weeks until school starts again. I guess I will continue this when I have more interesting things to say.
