The oldest told us that she was born in the house in 1926. She was born in the room we use as our office - it used to be her parents bedroom. She said that her aunt was cooking for 50 people in the kitchen while her mother was in labor in the bedroom. Her father and his friends were playing dominoes in the corner of the bedroom. That seems crazy to me, but I guess it was common back then. She had 7 brothers and sisters (total of 8 children). She was the only one born in this house, though. Her nephew came as well and remembers when our laundry room was a porch (which we had guessed). There was a bathroom out on the porch about where our half bath is now. The woman's daughter brought an oil painting that one of her students made of the house. It wasn't the most beautiful piece of art ever, but was interesting to see.
We found out that the house has had 5 owners from what we can piece together. From the time it was built (1920) until around 1945 it was the family who came to see us today. Then someone else bought it and their family owned it until the mall was proposed (around 1999 or 2000). The family who owned the original land here in V.A. (and broke it into 4 lots) bought the house and had it moved here. They sold it to Rosie Drake and we bought it from her in 2007. At some point while it was in F----- it was rented out as apartments, which explains why there are so many plugs, phone lines, and cable lines in the house.
I wanted to get all of that out before I forgot. And now, a few pics of the house now

That is so cool!!!! You don't hear about house history all too often. So cool that they ventured to knock on your door too!
