This morning was been quite eventful. We had a big hoopla at our school and I got to be a part of it. As part of a program called NBA cares, some of our students (the ones who work hard, have good attendance, perform community service, etc) have been invited to the NBA Rookie game (the Rookie game and All Stars game are here in Dallas in a few weeks). We have about 150 students going. They came to the auditorium this morning to have an assembly about it. What they didn't know (and what none of us knew until this morning) was that The Mavs mascot, the Mavs announcer, some Mavs dancers, and Jason Terry (great player if you don't follow) were all going to be here.
So this morning when I got to work (at 7:30 - 30 minutes early) they were already looking for me to turn on the sound system and lights and stuff. They covered my first two class periods so that I could stay in case anything went wrong. Nothing did, and it was really cool. Our kids are going to be on the news because some of them got to actually announce the players in the game.
Here's the link to the Dallas Morning News story!
That was my exciting morning! I got to meet Jason Terry and everyone. The district sound guy also came out and we talked about some issues we've been having with our sound system and he's going to come back next week and fix them, so that's good too. I was too chicken to take pictures (we were told specifically not to) but he got some with his phone camera and he said he'd email them to me.
I managed to take a couple of pictures after it was all over... one of the mascot that didn't turn out so great, but the big ticket (signed by Terry) was a gift to our school and I got the picture of it after everything was over.
Other than that, it's been a day like any other. The girls were in good moods, went to bed easily, and DH and I watched recorded TV. The State of the Union speech was on and while I feel like I should care, I really don't. Talk is cheap, you know? Also today, Apple announced their new gadget - the iPad. I wonder if it will change the face of technology or make any impact at all.
In other, more local, news: I can't believe my little Scouters is going to be 2 tomorrow! Here she is playing with Dylan's hat tonight - it's much too small for her! Ha!
