Poor Scout

We went to the doc this morning (thought apt was this afternoon-thank goodness I put it in my phone's calendar so I wouldn't forget!) to collect urine for another culture. Hoping the Suprax is working and her urine is clean after the UTI. The cath itself was awful again. I felt so horrible for my poor little baby! Now this fun part... when they see babies this little with UTIs they like to run more tests to be sure they don't have Vesicoureteral Reflux... basically a condition which causes some of her urine to travel backwards and can cause kidney damage. If you're interested you can read more about it here:

Anyway, they have to do a renal sonogram and a VCUG (they inject dye and watch the 'flow'). Neither of which sound like much fun. They will be doing them on the 26th and since I will be back at work and can't afford to miss any days, Michael gets to take her. I don't know who I feel more sorry for... Miss Scout b/c she has to go through the procedure or Michael b/c he has to hold her. Anyway, keep us in your T&P... and now the pics... the doctor took forever to come in and Scout got bored so she played with mommy's sunglasses. I'm trying to keep my camera in the diaper bag to capture funny moments like these...

Our weekend...

Sheesh! It's been quite a weekend! On Saturday we went to the zoo with my sister (and the new double stroller!) and took lots of pictures. If you want to see the whole album, here's a link

Here are a couple of my favorites

This was in the children's part of the zoo - a little play area where we stopped first

Then we came home and tried to take a nap. Michael changed her diaper right before we put her down and left her pants off because she was hot. After about 10 minutes, we heard crying. I was going to ignore it and see if she would sleep, but my sister decided to go up there. Glad she did. (warning, gross part of the story here)

My sis came back downstairs and said there was poop everywhere. I thought maybe Scout had pooped out the side of her diaper. We're about to change to size 4s because the 3s just don't hold it all anymore. I got up there and her diaper was on the floor. Clean and bone dry. Her crib was covered in poo. Apparently she took her diaper off, pooped, peed, and proceeded to finger paint with her new brown paint. It was everywhere. Crib, wall, mobile, her tummy, her legs... and yes, her mouth. When I came in, she was offering me a bite. So, that took a while to clean up.

Gross part over. Today is Mothers Day and we celebrated with Melissa and Jacob and Noa. We all went out to eat at Olive Garden where there was a huge line even though it was 2:30 in the afternoon. There were so many mommies there! We left there and went to BRU and Target. Then we all came back to our house where we are all still sitting. Well, Scout's in bed. She's wiped out!

Dylan's been awake more during the day and I'm hoping it translates to more sleep at night. I've got one more week until I go back to work and it'd be nice if she was only getting up once a night like Scout was at this point... right now she gets up 3 times, so I'm not holding my breath.

Oh yeah, I'm going to have to take some pictures of Scout playing in the big box that the double stroller arrived in (thanks again, Mish!). She and Noa have been playing in there!

If you made it this far, I'm impressed!

Fever of 105!!!

Daycare called this afternoon and said that Scout had a fever of 105.3. Well, it was 104.3 under her arm but that's the translation. So I packed up Dylan and went to get her and take her to the doctor. They checked her ears first and they look fine. So did her eyes, nose, and throat - and her lungs sounded good, too. With a fever that high, they didn't want to just let her go. (It was still almost 102 at the doc's office nearly an hour after taking tylenol) So, they ran some tests. It was awful on her and me. The nurses passed Dylan around so that I could hold Scout, so that was good. They did a CBC (finger prick) and swabbed her nose and mouth. A few minutes later they came in and said she did not show signs of strep or flu (thank goodness!) but her white count was high. Very high. Usually, anything over 15 is considered high and she was 26. So, they took some urine. Normally, that would mean peeing in a cup, but how do you get a 15 month old to pee in a cup? You don't. She gets a catheter. She was wailing by now and I had tears in my eyes as well. Then we went across the hall to a lab and they took blood. :( That was rough. When we went back to the pedi's office they had some news from the first tests... her urine showed signs of a UTI. Good news, that meant we didn't have to go across the street for a chest x-ray. Bad news, she had to get 2 antibiotic shots in her legs. My poor child went through so much today!!! We had to wait there for 20 minutes to make sure she didn't have any reactions to the shots and Michael made it from work during this time. I think she was happy to see daddy after mommy put her through so much. So, she's staying home tomorrow until they can confirm the UTI and we can see how she's doing. I'll keep you posted...

Back to scrapping

I've been working with photoshop and made two new layouts in the last few days.

Scout's 15 month apt

Well, Scout and Dylan shared a doc apt yesterday and I had quite a day, so I didn't get the chance to post about it. Here are the stats:

weight: 19lbs 15.6oz (9%)
length: 29.35 (15%)
head: 18.75 (90%)

Weight and length are small but according to her growth chart, she's leveling off. Her head is still huge, which is why we buy her 18month tops already! Her fine motor skills are fine and her verbal skills are right on target but he is slightly concerned about her gross motor skills. Basically, she's not walking yet. She's cruising and standing on her own and I'm sure she'll walk soon, so I'm not too worried. Her tubes look good and she has no fluid in her ears which is always a concern for us. As far as the tummy bug, he's pretty sure it's just that - a bug. We agree that she probably got over it during the weekend and got it again at daycare. She got two booster shots which she was not happy about but she handled it okay. The good news is, she goes back for her 18 month apt and gets shots and then isn't scheduled for any more until she's 4! Is she really going to get that old???

Anyway, the nurses enjoyed holding Dylan while we did Scout's apt and Scout enjoyed cruising around the room and quacking while we were doing Dylan's. I wasn't easy, but it wasn't as hard as it could have been, either.

Here she is this past weekend with Papa Dick and Patty. Yes, mommy put the dress on backwards but we fixed it before we left the house!

Dylan's 1 month apt

We had her 1 month apt yesterday and she shared it with her sister's 15 month apt. Believe me, that was crazy! Here are her stats:

weight 6lbs, 5.6oz (1%)
length 19.25in (2%)
head: 13.75 in (5%)

So, she's tiny, but at her weight check right out of the NICU, she was in the 0.2% for weight, so that's an improvement!

She's doing well, but having some spit up issues that may be related to reflux. Apparently it's pretty common in preemies. He's not too concerned b/c she is still gaining weight, but it's really bothering her (think high-pitched screams in the middle of the night when she's asleep followed by a burp and projectile spit up). So, he gave us a scrip for baby Zantac. We're planning on waiting about a week or so to see if she gets better and if not, filling the scrip. He gave us some feeding/ burping positioning suggestions that might help. She slept better last night, so I'm hoping they will do it and we won't have to get the scrip. Anyway, she couldn't get her Hep B booster b/c it hasn't been 4 weeks yet so she'll get that when she goes back at 2 months. No shots for Dylan this time. Her sister wasn't so lucky.

We started tummy time this week. Here are a few pics
